The Berlin tenant councils were first elected in 2016 to represent all tenants. Each of the six state-owned housing companies has a tenant council. The members are democratically elected and represent the interests of the tenants across the district. The tenant councils even have a seat on the supervisory board - that is co-decision-making at the highest level. howoge.de/mieterrat
The word "participation" comes from Latin and means something like "participating". Here, Berliners can have a say, help shape things, and participate.
Every neighborhood is as individual as its residents. People can represent the interests of their neighborhood in the tenants' council; it has been the mouthpiece of Berlin's neighborhoods since the 1980s. The members are democratically elected. There are currently eleven HOWOGE tenants' councils. howoge.de/mieterbeirat
Berlin is growing and with it the need for new housing. HOWOGE wants to actively involve its tenants in this change and is following Berlin's guidelines for participation. Not least through information, exchange, opinion polls or workshops, residents can accompany and help shape a new building from the very beginning. howoge.de/partizipation
As part of the Berlin school building initiative, HOWOGE is also building new schools for Berlin. Representatives of the school community are allowed to have a say in the design of the new school building right from the start. In this way, for example, the future needs of the students can be taken into account before construction begins. howoge.de/schule
Whether in a club or alone, whether for fellow people, the neighborhood or nature - the opportunities to volunteer in Berlin are as diverse as the city itself. Those who get involved can help shape their environment and the way we live together in a more social, better and more self-determined way. 0cn.de/engagieren
