In terms of bureaucracy, something has actually changed. So be careful if you still want to apply for a new passport for your summer vacation: From May onwards, only passport photos taken on site at the Citizens' Registration Office will be accepted for passports and ID cards. Photos you bring with you are taboo. Cameras will be set up in the Citizens' Registration Offices specifically for this purpose. Otherwise, only photos from photographers who have access to send the photos electronically to the office will be accepted. This should definitely be asked about beforehand.
We are already in the middle of it and yet still at the beginning. The year 2025 is moving forward in leaps and bounds and we wanted to know: What is different this year than last? Here are six points you should consider:

This year, garbage collection by the BSR will be slightly more expensive. However, the regular price adjustment remains low, with an average additional cost of less than two euros per household per month.

Postage for letters and postcards is also more expensive this year. A standard letter or postcard now costs 95 cents, a compact letter costs €1.10, a large letter costs €1.80 and a maxi letter costs €2.90.
Please smile – but from this year without amalgam. This type of dental filling is no longer allowed since the beginning of the year (unless medical reasons allow it).
Double names – with or without a hyphen – will be permitted from May for both spouses and also for children whose parents decide against a double name.

According to the new EU directive, anyone who sorts out old textiles should dispose of them in the designated old clothing containers and no longer in the residual waste. However, the BSR will continue to accept torn and damaged clothing. According to the BSR, if the old clothing is dirty, damaged and no longer wearable, it can still be disposed of in the residual waste bin.
